HoneyBug prides itself on providing high-quality gifts to commemorate the various milestones of birth and infancy. They specialize in ethically sourced and produced products for baby showers, birthdays, and other major events in the lives of an infant and their parents.
Naturally, HoneyBug’s online store plays a pivotal role in the company’s success. In order to drive growth, Rachel Webb—HoneyBug’s chief operating officer—sought assistance in rounding out their eCommerce efforts. To this end, they reached out to Magic to find a suitable sales and marketing assistant.
Running a Tight Shop
One of their assistant’s primary responsibilities was managing the online store listings. Updating a listing consists of giving it the right tags and categories, and ensuring images and descriptions conform to brand standards. They also add the finishing touches for drop shipping, a retail strategy that forgoes stocking items in favor of producing and shipping them on demand, through a distributed network—allowing them much more flexibility with their market. Other eCommerce-related tasks included data entry, admin work, and basic research.
Rachel was impressed with her assistant’s communicativeness and autonomy. Tasks were completed promptly, with any necessary updates and clarifications handled during brief daily calls.
“Once he was clear, we could let him run with it, and he consistently showed up, completed tasks, and was communicative with beginning and end of day check-ins.”
Thousands of Leads a Day
The other role Rachel set for their assistant was supporting their lead generation efforts. At the onset, HoneyBug was busy strengthening their position in a new sales channel. Working with their new assistant, the in-house team managed to vastly increase the number of leads they got through it.
“Impressive… Over 5,000 leads in one day—more than any of us could do on our own. It was an incredibly efficient use of time.”
Staying Nimble
HoneyBug’s current expansion plans wax and wane. After making sufficient headway in their new channels and getting their store in order, they found that they could dial back on their freelance services. They were pleased to have the freedom to pause their assistant’s services as needed.
Rachel noted that their team’s approach involved working with external providers on various projects, some of which required them to suspend and restart the services as circumstances changed. The freedom to do so with Magic—without any difficulties or penalties—proved a major advantage in pursuing their plans.
“The flexibility without commitment is huge for us, especially with how nimble we are on projects!”
At the outset, Rachel knew they’d need an assistant with the technical skills to assist with their ecommerce operations, who also exhibited good judgment and initiative—and they got one. HoneyBug managed to ramp up their sales with a remote sales specialist who was, in a word, “Impressive.”
